TITLE: Junior Mountain Riders Team Coach
DEPARTMENT: Tahoe Cross-Country Ski Education Association
REPORTS TO: Programs Coordinator
PART-TIME: 2 hrs/week average
HOURLY: Up to $20hr; depending upon experience

Position Summary

Jr. Mountain Rider Coaches will meet Mondays, 3:45-5:45, sessions are June, July, and August. You’ll be riding with kids ages 7-11 years old. The pay scale begins at $20/hour based on credentials and experience. We’re looking for someone who has had some experience, and ideally, has one of the following credentials/experiences:

  • Strong intermediate/expert rider with the right attitude to learn
  • Experience coaching mountain biking
  • Experience coaching or certified coaching or guiding in another sport
  • Excellent communicator with youth
  • Certified Mountain Bike Coach (BICP/PMBIA)
  • Safesport Training is a requirement and is offered, and reimbursed, through Tahoe XC

Essential Duties

Junior Mountain Riders Coaching

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and cohesive environment between athletes and coaches
  • Foster a lifelong love for the sport of mountain biking and being outdoors
  • Facilitate understanding of basic mountain bike maintenance and personal responsibility for equipment

Organization & Communication

  • Regularly communicate with Lead Coaches and Program Coordinator
  • Assist with parent orientation at the beginning of each session
  • Be available to meet and communicate with parents at the beginning and end of each training session and outside of practice via phone or email
  • Report and document incidents or accidents to parents, Lead Coaches and the Program Coordinator

Skills

  • Mountain Bike riding experience with extensive knowledge of classic and skate technique
  • Coaching experience preferred

Required Certifications

  • Valid (stat) driver’s license; clean record
  • Safesport Training is offered, and will be reimbursed, through Tahoe XC
  • CPR/First Aid certification (may be acquired after hire)
  • Applicant will be required to submit to a background check prior to final job offer

Environmental Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted at Tahoe XC, outside
  • Ability to work outdoors in all temperatures and weather extremes
  • Ability to lift 25+ pounds

Physical and Mental Requirements

Demonstrates ability to:

  • Maintain a high energy level
  • Be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities
  • Be comfortable lifting 25 pounds
